Edna Buchanan remains Queen of Crime with new novel
Edna Buchanan began her writing career as a newspaper reporter covering the police beat for the Miami Herald. Always wanting to write novels, she created Britt Montero, ace crime reporter, who has come to be loved by her numerous fans. Now, Buchanan switches genders and writes with a male protagonist. And to top it off, she makes him a heart transplant patient before she sends him on a whirlwind adventure!
Buchanan does not disappoint her readers with "Pulse" (Avon). She writes expertly and makes the reader believe her characters are real including Miami businessman Frank Douglas, a certified public accountant who wakes up from his heart transplant drawn into the life and family of the heart donor, Daniel Alexander.
If Daniel Alexander had not committed suicide, Frank would have surely died. Instead, Frank is obsessed by Daniel's life and reaches out to his widow, Rory, at the risk of losing his own family. As Frank becomes more and more involved with Daniel's widow and young son, he becomes all too aware that things are just not right.
Daniel's widow is left penniless, though Daniel ran a successful restaurant. Then Daniel's partner is found dead and the lives of Rory and Frank appear to be in danger.
Buchanan spent many years on the mean streets of Miami and her expertise is evident in her novels. "Pulse" is one of her best works.
