"The Hanged Man," an outstanding novel
Review by Cheryl Kravetz
T. J. MacGregor has been one of my favorite authors for several years and her newest novel, "The Hanged Man" (Kensington Books) is one of her best.
Set in Fort Lauderdale, "The Hanged Man" deals with obsession, murder, suspense and psychic reaching.
Book store owner Mira Morales writhes in agony during a vivid nightmare in her Fort Lauderdale home as the story opens. She is experiencing more than a mere nightmare. Her senses are filled with the vision of an intruder entering her home, threatening the lives of her child and herself.
When she awakes she knows she has psychically witnessed a murder. When she calls the police they treat her like one of the many nuts in the world who call local law enforcement agencies every day to report imagined crimes. That is until they discover a murder that matches what Mira has told them.
At the same time, on an elaborate estate, a few miles away, famous criminologist Andrew Steele lies murdered, his wife kidnaped. The police have very few leads to follow, but one of those important leads is a collection of Tarot cards sent to the victim's home.
Broward County Sheriff's Deputy Wayne Sheppard is assigned the case and when he meets Mira Moralse he races against time to solve the murder before another one occurs.
At the bottom of the murder is a covert government operation that had gone awry 15 years earlier. Now, of the seven original members of the "psychic swat team" called Project Delphi only three are alive. They are dropping like flies and all under mysterious circumstances. Only one is determined to survive no matter who gets in the way.
T.J. MacGregor is a former prison librarian who thoroughly researches her subject before she begins to write. She has re-discovered her love of the Tarot and the psychic realm and that is apparent in "The Hanged Man."
If you like suspense and government plots this is one you will not want to miss.
