In Blood Work, we are introduced to Terry McCaleb. Terry was an F.B.I. agent, a specialist, one of the best who looked into the minds of the most dangerous criminal, then tracked them down and captured them. A heart transplant has ended all that now. Sentenced to retirement aboard his fishing boat in a Los Angeles harbor, he has resigned himself to his fate; return the vessel to seaworthines and sail home. Out of the blue, he receives a strange visitor requesting his help. She is the sister of the donor whose heart now beats in his chest. Against doctor's orders, and his own personal qualms, Terry returns to the hunt, back into the life once had, back into 'hard tango' between the Bureau and local law enforcement, retired or not.
Blood Work is a dark, unsettling, gripping, magnificent read. Forget about rising early in the morning. Turn off the alarm clock. Let the kids watch cartoons. Read Blood Work instead. Highly recommended.
